In our beautiful Chama Valley we have a precious historic artifact of the American West. Built in 1880 and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the finest and most spectacular example of steam era mountain railroading in North America. Its equipment has been lovingly preserved; the structures and vast landscape exist today as if frozen in the first half of the twentieth century.
Join the Chama Valley Rotary Club for a spectacular Moonlight Train Ride and Dinner this October 14, 2005. Our clubs major fundraiser promises to be an event to remember. The train will depart Chama at 3:30 p.m, at Osier; passengers will be treated to a steak dinner with all the trimmings. (A chicken alternative will also be available.) The return trip to Chama will be by the light of a full moon.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operates comfortable coaches with windows that open and rest rooms aboard. You will have reserved seats, but are welcome to enjoy the view from an open observation car. Elevation ranges from 7,863 to 10,015 feet, due to the change in altitude and setting sun you will experience a wide range of weather throughout the ride so we recommend layers of clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty, comfortable shoes, and glasses to protect your eyes. The steam locomotive emits smoke and cinders. No smoking is permitted on any railroad property.
This is an authentic steam locomotive and there is something magical about steam at night! The Chama Valley Rotary Club is proud to share our little piece of heaven with friends and supporters.
